The Perks of Being a Budtender
Working and being a budtender allows me to be part of a growing and dynamic industry that’s changing rapidly. It’s exciting to be on the cutting edge of new products and innovations that are changing the way people use cannabis.
One of the best parts of my job is the opportunity to educate and help people. I get to interact with people from all walks of life, each with their own unique needs and preferences. It’s satisfying to be able to provide people with information and guidance that helps them make informed decisions about their cannabis use.
Another perk of being a budtender is the sense of community that comes with it. I work with a team of passionate and dedicated individuals who share my enthusiasm for cannabis and helping others. We have a strong bond and work together to create a positive and welcoming environment for our customers.

Lastly, budtenders are not able to smoke whenever they want, we do smoke on our breaks, but we cannot just go in the back whenever we want to get high. We have to handle large amounts of money and like any job, if we screw up to much the possibility of getting fired is real.
The Challenges of Being a Budtender
While there are many perks to being a budtender, there are also some challenges that come with the job. One of the biggest challenges is dealing with large crowds of people on a daily basis. On busy days, we can see anywhere from 50 to 100 or more customers, each with their own questions and needs. It can be exhausting to provide everyone with the attention and guidance they deserve.
Handling large amounts of money is also a challenge. Our dispensary is a high-traffic area that’s known for its cash transactions. We take extra precautions to ensure the safety of our staff and customers, but it’s still a stressful situation to be in.
Working in an environment that’s often the target of robberies and other criminal activity can also be a challenge. We take security very seriously and have protocols in place to protect our staff and customers. But the threat is always there, and it can be unnerving to work in an environment where you need to be constantly aware of your surroundings.
The Payoff
Despite the challenges, being a budtender is a rewarding and fulfilling career. I enjoy being part of an industry that’s changing the way people think about cannabis and its uses. And while the pay may not be as high as it could be, the tips do help. On average, I make around $18 per hour and an extra $20 to $40 per day in tips.
Overall, being a budtender is a challenging but rewarding job that allows me to be part of a growing industry and help people every day.
